How do you tell what size Wilton Decorating Tips are? ASAP!?
I really don't know if this is a dumb question or not but I've taken a recent interest in Cake Decorating and in my book of recipes I got it will say things like "Use a 1/3 inch round tip". I have my mom's old set of wilton tips and I don't find sizes on them anywhere. All they have are these numbers. I would like to buy my own set of tips but if Wilton doesn't provide sizes like that I won't be buying theirs! Please help =P
I don't believe any decorating tips have the actual size on them. Wilton has sets of tips for different uses (making leaves, stars, ruffles, etc.) and each of those sets are numbered from lowest to highest as the tip gets larger. If your book has a picture of the design you are trying to make just estimate by sight the size of the tip that you need. I don't think it's absolutely crucial that you have a round tip that is exactly 1/3 inch. That seems like a pretty large tip to me.
As for the Wilton brand, I'd stick with them. They seem to hold up over the years as opposed to some of the less expensive or "generic" brands.
